Joel Davidman

Joel Davidman here. I became good friends with Jon Davis because our lockers were adjoining (I believe in gym) and we hit it off. We both were into the Moody Blues and European history. His father, Louis, was a UCLA professor in business management, his mother Edith had health issues, and his younger sister, Carol, and I are still in contact.

We both went on to UCLA, traveling for a month together all around Great Britian the summer before our junior year. I was at his wedding shortly after graduation but, alas, this was destined not to go the distance. He had a son with his second wife which also did not last.

With the lady he married as his third (and last), my lady friend (now my wife) and I chartered a large live-aboard sailboat and sailed the Drake Channel to the BVI and back. We were so tempted to simply sail off into the sunset and never return. Maybe that would have been the answer.

Jon was a troubled soul who had his demons, and they eventually took him down. I was not privy to his last days. His demons wrapped their arms around him and carried him away.

As with my other good school friend, Myles Lenhoff, I think often and fondly of Jon. We connected in so many ways not experienced since. I hope he is in a better place. I miss him!
